Archaeological Museum
The museum which was founded by Osman Hamdi, an artist and an archeologist, with the name Müze-i Hümayun on June 13, 1891. The architect of the monumental building is Vallaury. There are unique statues from Archaic Age to Roman Period lined up. It was constructed as the first Academy of Fine Arts by Osman Hamdi in 1883. The Museum of Oriental Antiquities, which is within the building, was built as a villa by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1472. The richest and the most important museum of Turkey was ranked number one in the competition among 45 museums in 1992 and chosen as the “Museum of the Year.' You should not forget to visit this valuable museum of Istanbul.
