Greek Orthodox Patriarchate

Patriarchates are the holiest places for the Orthodox. The patriarchate, which was moved to its current building in 1602, reached its current look with the drastic restoration made in 1800s. In the patriarchate, there are also some valuable religious goods under the control of the Russian Orthodox community. The patriarch throne believed to belong to the 5th century, three mosaic icons which have few matches in the world, a column where the Messiah was believed to be tied and whipped and the coffins belonging to three Aves are among the goods considered valuable. It is necessary to see the patriarchate, which is one of the valuable heritages of Istanbul and highly important for the Orthodox, and to breathe its historical air.
